# Generate refunds

Learn how create refunds using Digital River Prebuilt Checkout.

You can generate refunds using the Digital River Dashboard or by sending [Refund API requests](https://docs.digitalriver.com/digital-river-api/order-management/returns-and-refunds-1/refunds) to Digital River directly. 

The BigCommerce order status will be updated automatically when a refund is created and processed.

| **Digital River Order State**                           | **BigCommerce Order State**                                    |
| ------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| If the Digital River order is partially refunded, then  | The BigCommerce order will be updated to "Partially refunded." |
| If the Digital River order is completely refunded, then | The BigCommerce order will be updated to "Refunded."           |

The refunded amount will be reflected in the order details of the BigCommerce application.
